Abstract

The article substantiates the relevance of the generalization of the scientific opinion of social scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in particular historians, sociologists and demographers, regarding the historical prerequisites, deep causes and nature of Russian-Ukrainian war, its social and cultural dimensions, consequences and risks for Ukraine and the world, the development of a strategy for post-war revival and rebuilding the country and preventing a repeat attack by an aggressor on independent states, as well as for the formation of a representative Ukrainian historiography and a source base for research on the modern history of the state. A number of scientific studies devoted to the analysis of the causes, features and consequences of the Russian Federation’s war in Ukraine in the global and all-Ukrainian contexts have been analyzed and summarized. The research conducted after the start of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war on February 24, 2022 by socio-humanitarian scientists and representatives of the academic scientific community of Ukraine, primarily historians, sociologists and demographers of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, including employees of the Institute of the History of Ukraine, Institute of Sociology, Ptoukha Institute for Demography and Social Studies, Rylsky Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnology and other academic institutions іs analyzed in detail. The topics of the research concern the modern Russian-Ukrainian war in the light of post-colonialism, the origins and risks of the Putin regime, the cleansing of the symbolic space of Ukraine from imperial symbols, the cultural and anthropological aspects of the consequences of the russian military aggression against Ukraine, in particular forced migration and its negative consequences for the gene pool of Ukraine, the assessment of social and psychological state of the population of Ukraine during the war. It was concluded that the achievements in the field of history, sociology and demography, received by scientists of the Academy in the current tragic period of its history, as well as international support of the scientific sphere of Ukraine, volunteer and information activities and a holistic vision of the scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the further development of the scientific sphere, require a more detailed analysis.
